About Helo
Why we built this
Finding someone you can trust for an in-person service shouldn't require hours of searching, comparing prices, checking reviews, and wondering whether the person who shows up is actually reliable.
We built Helo to make that process simpler — helping people find trusted local service providers with less uncertainty, less searching, and fewer decisions to make. Whether it's a ride, a move, cleaning, cooking, pet or companion care, or a repair, you describe what you need in a sentence and we handle the pricing and matching.
Building trust into everyday services
We believe trust shouldn't be something users have to reconstruct from scratch every time they interact with someone new. Our goal is to build infrastructure that makes real-world interactions safer, simpler, and easier to navigate.
That means putting the mechanisms in plain sight rather than asking you to take our word for it: optional identity review, address protection, two-way reviews, and human handling of reports. We're an early-stage product and we're honest about our limits — we don't run full background checks and we can't guarantee anyone's safety — but we can be transparent about how the platform works and what protections exist, so you can decide for yourself.
Meet the founder
Moria Chen
Founder, Helo
Helo was founded by Moria Chen, a recent graduate of Northwestern University. She developed the idea while participating in The Garage, Northwestern's startup community, and previously conducted academic research at Columbia University.
“I started Helo after realizing how much unnecessary work goes into something as simple as finding someone reliable for an in-person service. Customers spend time checking reviews, comparing providers, worrying about safety, and deciding whom to trust. Service providers, meanwhile, spend enormous amounts of time marketing themselves across multiple platforms just to find work. I wanted to build a better system — one where trust, reputation, and safety are part of the infrastructure rather than something every person has to figure out on their own.”
